Promotion of Improving
Work-Life Balance (WLB)

Improving the quality of working life

One of the key elements for improving the quality of working life (QoWL) is improving work-life balance. DMG MORI is working to reduce overtime (labor exceeding 40 hours/week), ensure work intervals, and promote taking paid holidays.

Work interval compliance rate (%)

DMG MORI introduced a 12-hour work interval system in December 2018 and has been achieving mostly 100% compliance every year since 2019, using electronic attendance management.

Visualizing Health Image

When promoting health and productivity management,
it is important to have a good understanding of ourselves.

The Health and Safety Report Vol.3 (as of April 2023), which the activities report of the Health care and promotion center in FY2022, introduce longitudinal analyses of medical checkup data and the results of a newly implemented outcome survey. We found that job satisfaction was related to the levels of work, departmental, and workplace through the stress check survey.

Purpose-specific surveys to promote health management

These surveys include the use of pedometers to assess the daily inactivity of office employees as well as comparisons of dental/oral health between those who regularly go to preventive dental check-ups and those who do not. These assessments serve as an important basis for promoting and evaluating our health and productivity management initiatives.

Step count survey of sedentary workers
This survey result shows the daily step count of 305 sedentary workers on their work days. This result is from a total of 1,227 days of respondents wearing the borrowed pedometer for the whole day except for when they are taking a bath or sleeping.

Dental / Oral checkup (2021)

Dental/Oral checkup (2021)
The percentage of people with dental/oral problems among people who are going to regular preventive dental checkups was close to half of that of people who are not going to checkups (2021 Dental/Oral Checkup Follow-up Survey).

When promoting health and productivity management, it is important to have a good understanding of ourselves.

The entire DMG MORI group is working on visualizing the health image. We share the recognition of the issues in health management through quantifying and graphing the health state of DMG MORI as a group based on the periodic health checkup results of our
near-3,000 employees and comparing the results with other companies in the same industry.

Comparison of the percentage of employees with health risks

Japan Health Insurance Association's 2020 Health Scoring Report
This is an example of visualizing health image. The graph shows that the percentage of DMG MORI's employees with a health risk is lower compared to other companies in the same industry during the same period (Japan Health Insurance Association's 2020 Health Scoring Report). On the other hand, we can also see that 20% to 30% of the employees have a health risk. Data is also analyzed by gender and age group.

The results show that BMI is a key factor for health events.

Improvement of Health Literacy

The improvement of health literacy is garnering attention. Health literacy allows people to find and understand the information related to health, to apply it to their decision making, and to translate it into proper health-promoting behavior. DMG MORI is working on health literacy initiatives.

DMG MORI launched the Health Information website, which is updated in a timely manner.

This internal site managed by the Health care and promotion center communicates up-to-date scientific findings in an easy-to-understand manner with introductions of internal surveys and explanations on COVID-19 precautions, common diseases, and workplace environment and health issues. The site answers frequently asked questions and doubts from employees as part of the efforts to improve health literacy.

Regular webinars for managerial roles

We offer quarterly webinars for managers with contents in four key areas: “workplace health management,” “mental health,” “healthy habits,” and “health and productivity management.” New managers are required to attend this training as soon as they assume their positions. (See below for an overview of the 2023 Q2 training).

e-Learning videos

Based on the results of annual health check-ups, our medical staff creates original e-learning materials to introduce measures against lifestyle diseases and metabolic syndromes and to answer frequently-asked health-related questions.
