Exercise class: Let's adopt a workout routine! (2023)

In our survey of 204 office employees in R&D and other departments, 157 reported a lack of physical exercise. To address this issue, we held an exercise class and later offered physical fitness tests and guidance to 90 of them.

For the 3-month guidance, we invited a certified health and exercise instructor to the company gym during work hours. After the sessions, more participants reported exercising at least 30 minutes/twice a week. Additionally, 3/4 of the participants lost body fat. The number of sit-ups and push-ups within 30 seconds has increased, too.

Nutrition Navigation Class by Dietitians (2022)

We offered a 6-month nutrition class by a registered dietitian for 27 employees with a BMI of over 35, out of which 20 decided to take the class and 18 successfully completed it.

In the class, the participants recorded their meals and set their own behavioral goals to improve nutritional balance and eating habits following the dietitian's guidance.

As a result of the monthly sessions and the participants’ continued efforts, they achieved an average weight loss of 2.8 kg in 6 months (statistically significant). Eight of them lost more than 5% of their initial weight.

DMG MORI held the "Exercise Class: Fighting off lifestyle-related diseases while still young" during fiscal 2021

We held a briefing session for 92 employees under 40 who are not taking therapeutic drugs and have recorded a high level of blood pressure, blood glucose, and/or lipids (equivalent to the level requiring specific health guidance). Of the 83 employees who participated, 74 completed the program.

With the personalized exercise prescription created by a physiotherapist and guidance given over three sessions, participants aim for a weight loss of 3% or more of their body weights over three months while doing resistance exercise at corporate fitness facilities or at home and using an active mass-meter and body composition analyzer (InBody).

Compared to people who participated in the briefing but not in the program (16 people who cooperated in measurement), the weight loss rate of members who completed this program by receiving both exercise guidance and diet guidance (30-minute guidance by occupational health staff) was statistically significant and also exceeded the 3% target.

DMG MORI supports healthy life with workplace mental health care

Mental health care in the workplace is an important challenge. DMG MORI is working on mental health measures in line with the stress check system set forth in Article 66-10 of the Industrial Safety and Health Act, the Guidelines for Improving and Maintaining Employees' Mental Health, and the Guide for Supporting Return to Work. Our key initiatives are the cluster analysis of stress check, training of managerial roles, and the follow-up after the employee returns to work.

Cluster analysis of stress check

The Health Management Improvement Center conducts their own cluster analysis, and reports the results to the Safety and Health Committee or internally publishes them in the DMG MORI Health & Safety Report as part of their workplace improvement efforts.

The cluster analysis enables clarification of DMG MORI's characteristics and challenges, as well as issues in each workplace, through comparison with other companies in the same industry.

DMG MORI promotes the use of MIRROR and other checklist-type questionnaires as tools for working on workplace efforts.

In organizations where the supervisor provides good support, the colleagues also tend to be helpful

The graph shows an example of cluster analysis. It shows the distribution of the average score by organization.
