Regional & Social Connections

DMG MORI manufactures its high-precision products in an environment surrounded by beautiful and rich nature. Since the start of cooperation with DMG MORI AG, we have further accelerated our efforts to contribute to the beauty of the landscape around our business sites in Japan. Together with prefectural and municipal governments, we are undertaking various initiatives to care for nature and create a safe and secure living space for the locals.

Iga Campus

Iga Campus signed comprehensive cooperation agreements with Mie Prefecture in 2018 and Iga City in 2019 to improve the welfare of local communities and revitalize them through initiatives for industrial promotion, community development, and more. Our improvement efforts also target the area surrounding Shindo Station along the JR Kansai Line, the closest station to Iga Campus.

Landscape improvement

We are committed to the creation of safe and secure regions by planting cherry trees, painting guardrails and sidewalks to match the surrounding landscape, setting up streetlights, and more. In 2017, we established Mahoroba Farm CO., LTD. to cultivate abandoned farmland near Iga Campus and grow wine grapes since 2019.
In addition, DMG MORI is contributing to local forest maintenance and conservation by using thinned wood from forests in Iga and Nabari areas as raw material for wood chips for wood biomass gasification and power generation at Iga Campus.

SHINDO YARDS

We built SHINDO YARDS as a complex facility with administrative functions and a library directly in front of Shindo Station. For the walls, we utilized cedar wood textured by searing the surface in a traditional process called “yakisugi” to allow the building to blend in with the rich natural landscape. In 2024, SHINDO YARDS was selected as one of the 100 best buildings in Japan by the Japan Institute of Architects (JIA).
SHINDO YARDS’s library is operated jointly with Iga City under the concept of "promoting book encounters." In addition to general books, novels, and new publications, the library has a collection of approximately 20,000 specialized books in a variety of genres ranging from art to wine, music, marine, sports, and engineering, all of which are characteristic of DMG MORI. About 10,000 of these books are provided by us. The library is designed to promote interaction and convenience for the locals, allowing them to relax with a book while waiting for their train or to take a leisurely break.

DMG MORI Arena

We opened DMG MORI Arena in Iga City, Mie Prefecture, to promote health and sports and offer a center of interaction for the local community. This facility includes the largest and best-equipped sport climbing hall in Japan, athletic facilities, a dance studio, and a cafeteria. In addition to hosting the "Lead Japan Cup," the highest competition in Japan sponsored by the Japan Alpine and Sport Climbing Association, DMG MORI Arena also serves as a training and camp site for professional athletes. For the local community, we provide a place for hosting events such as climbing workshops for parents and children, and a place for safety and disaster prevention, as DMG MORI Arena has been designated as a wide-area evacuation center by Iga City.

Nara Campus

In 2017, we concluded a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Nara Prefecture and have been promoting various initiatives to strengthen cooperation and develop the local industry and landscape. This includes a landscape improvement plan for the area around Nara Campus (along the Kizu Yokota Line) which has been in progress since December 2021 and covers the planting of cherry trees, clearing of weeds and bushes along the Bodaisen riverbank, painting guardrails and sidewalks, installing a bus stop with a roof, and removing signboards that fall under the violation of the ordinance. In front of Nara Campus, our security guards ensure the safety of local elementary school students on their way to and from school. DMG MORI was founded in Nara, and we aim to make it a safe, secure, and livable environment for the locals and our employees.

Germany

In the Teutoburg Forest in Bielefeld, Germany, trainees from DMG MORI AG planted about 100 trees to mitigate the effects of climate change. Around our Pfronten Plant in the Allgäu, our employees participated in the "Trash Free Allgäu" project and collected approximately 600 kg of litter. In addition, Pfronten Plant operates its own fire station, and we are ready to rush to the scene if any of the approximately 3,000 fire alarms installed in the factory go off or if assistance is needed outside as well.

Support for small farmers

DMG MORI is cooperating with organic vegetable distributor “Saka no Tochu” to support small-scale farmers. At our company restaurants in Iga, Nara, and Nagoya, we serve fresh vegetables grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizer to promote employee health with the real taste of food.

Sports, Music and Arts Promotion

To make machine tools available at full capacity for a long period of time and across different industries, we need the best technology, highest precision, and talented people. This process reminds us of sports, music, and the arts, and thus we are making various efforts to contribute to our society through culture as well.

Sports

In October 2018, we established the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM and welcomed marine adventurer Kojiro Shiraishi as our skipper. Later, he became the first Asian to complete the world's toughest solo, no-stop, no-supply round-the-world yacht race "Vendée Globe" for the first time in 2020 and for the second time 2024, when he came in 24th (out of 40). Skipper Kojiro crossed the finishing line on the "DMG MORI Global One," our durable and fast foiler made of parts processed by DMG MORI machine tools.
In 2021, we established the "DMG MORI SAILING ACADEMY" to promote the yachting and sailing culture in Japan and Asia while fostering young skippers and engineers.

Music

DMG MORI has been supporting musician Kyohei Sorita since 2018. In May 2021, we established Japan National Orchestra CO., LTD. with young soloist active in Japan and abroad, and by 2024, we increased their number to 22. It is our goal to create and develop new culture and art through our activities in Nara, the birthplace of DMG MORI, and through global activities such as overseas tours. On February 28, 2022, we concluded a "Collaboration Agreement on the Promotion of Cultural Activities" with Nara Prefecture and have been conducting outreach activities to provide local elementary, junior high, and high schools with opportunities to appreciate, experience, and teach high-quality classical music. In addition, in 2024, we launched the “MUSIK CAMP” together with Nara Prefecture to discover and nurture future performers by offering guidance by JNO members and creating string ensembles.

Art

Since 2020, DMG MORI has been supporting ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO, an exhibition of up-and-coming artists in their 20s and 30s, by taking up leading artists in Japan and abroad. Having Professor Noboru Tsubaki of Kyoto University of the Arts as a director of ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO, we are exhibiting artists’ works at our offices and facilities. We display more than 150 pieces of meticulously crafted works of art, ranging from palm-sized objects to large-scale works up to 10 meters in length to not only be enjoyed by visitors but also stimulate the imagination of our employees for more creative product development.
