【SUCCESS STORIES】Large Gear Machining with DMU 270 FD: Process Integration & GX | KOMATSU (Japan)

In this video, we present a case study demonstrating how key components—such as gears used in large presses and construction equipment—are produced through process integration on the DMG MORI large 5-axis machining center, the DMU 270 FD.
In conventional gear machining, processes such as gear cutting, grinding, and marking required a total of five operators and approximately three months to complete. By integrating these processes into a single DMU 270 FD, production can now be carried out by just two operators in approximately three weeks. This significantly reduces labor requirements while greatly improving productivity.
In addition, minimizing inter-process transportation and enabling gear production without intermediate groove machining help reduce energy consumption throughout both development and production, thereby contributing to green transformation (GX).
