Training the Industry
At DMG MORI, we make it our goal to raise the skills of the industry as a whole. We provide training for external engineers in addition to our own employees, and actively organize open contests and courses for industrial skill development.
DMG MORI ACADEMY
We have established DMG MORI ACADEMY facilities worldwide to train our own engineers as well as engineers of the entire manufacturing industry, while also supporting customers during commissioning of new machines. These facilities are located at Iga Campus in Japan, our largest production site, Chicago in the US, and Stuttgart in Germany, as well as other core regions. In 2023, we opened new facilities in Hamamatsu, Kanazawa, Sendai, and Okayama in Japan and have organized hands-on training for local customers and students. We are also planning to establish DMG MORI ACADEMY in Kyushu in the near future.

Digital Academy
In 2020, we launched the “Digital Academy” as a digital platform for studying machine operation. The contents are available anytime and anywhere through our customer portal myDMG MORI, ready to be used by customers, students, and teachers as educational materials for classes, home study, and club activities such as robot contests.

Resident Engineers
With an increase of complex-shaped products and new materials in need of advanced machining technologies, DMG MORI supports customers with “resident engineers” who stay at their site as production engineers for one year. This way, customers benefit from proposals for optimized machining processes and efficient-to-machine product designs, as well as from total support for building production systems after machine delivery.

5-axis Machining Association
In 2018, we launched the "5-axis Machining Association" with 70 customers in Japan for operator training and additional support for first-time 5-axis machine users to become masters. The Association holds biannual general membership meetings, publishes newsletters, hosts technical seminars led by DMG MORI engineers, and organizes 5-axis machining skill contests. At the general membership meetings, we share information necessary for members to expand their business in the automotive, aircraft, semiconductor, and other industries. We also hold study sessions to hone CAM skills necessary for improving 5-axis machining technology. As a result, the 5-axis Machining Association helps customers secure and train operators while serving as a forum for member companies and organizations to exchange information, expand business opportunities, and stabilize management. DMG MORI is committed to supporting 5-axis machine users and promoting 5-axis machines.

The Cutting Dream Contest
Since 2004, the Cutting Dream Contest brings together companies, educational institutions, and research organizations across the machining industry in Japan who utilize advanced machine tools such as additive manufacturing and laser machines. This contest serves as a platform for participants to study, improve, and exchange machining technologies and skills. The innovation and unwavering dedication behind their masterful creations continue to drive technological advancements worldwide.

Academic Collaborations
We have concluded comprehensive agreements with Nara, Mie, and Hyogo prefectures for joint regional development and the promotion of technology education. We offer students of educational facilities and high schools the chance to study with industry-leading equipment and to participate in lectures on machining know-how and the latest technologies given by our engineers. In addition, as part of our efforts to nurture female engineers, we have concluded a comprehensive agreement with Nara Women's University. For them, we dispatch lecturers, devise curricula, and provide practical training at the Nara Product Development Center.
In Germany, there is an Apprentice System for technical students to receive approx. three years of training at a company as vocational trainees for specific jobs. In addition, we hold the "Girls' Day" every April as a work experience project to get female students interested in science and engineering fields, providing them with opportunities to experience skills such as assembling parts, setting up pneumatic controls, and soldering.

WorldSkills Competition
The WorldSkills Competition aims at promoting vocational training in different countries, international exchange, and goodwill among young professionals. DMG MORI continuously supports international and preliminary tournaments by providing machines, technical assistance on site, as well as training courses for the competitors and more. In 2023, the Japan National Championships took place at Iga Campus.

Mori Manufacturing Research and Technology Foundation
The Foundation devotes itself to supporting activities aimed at the development and sustainable growth of not only the machine tool industry but the global industry as a whole with an emphasis on the three areas: “research and development,” “human resources development,” “community and culture.” We also co-sponsor international conferences such as CIRP (The International Academy for Production Engineering), and together we promote research and development in production technology, including academic presentations at CIRP 2023 Dublin. In addition, since 2019, we have been providing 3-year scholarships to engineering graduate students at Kyoto University, Keio University, and the University of Tokyo. We expanded this program in 2023 to graduate students in the humanities and social sciences at Kyoto University. After completing their doctoral programs, the scholarship recipients actively pursue careers in their respective fields with employment at private companies and continued research at universities. Since 2021, we have been organizing get-togethers at our Nara Product Development Center with lively discussions that transcend the boundaries of universities and majors.
