Press Release
Opening of the AM Innovation Center at Nara PDC,
our Development Hub for Customer Innovation
DMG MORI CO., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as “DMG MORI”) opened the AM Innovation Center on the first floor of its second headquarters, the Nara Product Development Center (PDC), to introduce customers to our newest Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology. In parallel, Nara Campus (Yamato-Koriyama City, Nara Prefecture) will restart operations in April as one of the world's largest system solution factories to provide customers with state-of-the-art automation solutions.
AM creates intricate shapes that are impossible to realize with traditional cutting equipment. As a result, its applications are expanding into aerospace, medical, and automotive industries for new build jobs as well as repair and maintenance of existing components to reduce waste and energy costs. In 2022, we established the AM Lab & Fab at our Global Solution Centers in Iga and Tokyo to support our customers with contract AM services.
On top of that, we are expanding our AM applications to conceptual design and in-house production of our own key components. With our know-how, we enhance workpiece functionality and foster customer innovations.
The AM Innovation Center showcases five AM machines, featuring both DED*1 and SLM*2 technology. Through DfAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing), our engineers can propose tailored additive designs for complex workpieces and perform test cuts. We also offer peripherals like powder storage units and 3D scanners for pre- and post-deposition processes. Experience the full process chain from design to setup and evaluation here.
In addition, AM training material for all skill levels and over 30 workpiece samples are on display, and we recently entered a joined research project with Keio University in an industry-academia collaboration.
On April 1st, 2025, we established DMG MORI Additive Co., Ltd. to further strengthen our AM business. The newly opened AM Innovation Center will serve as a global development hub for AM technology to drive future innovation and support customers' productivity.
